We are made up of community members working hard to make urban biking in Montrose better. All donations and money raised are invested back in to the community.
Below are a list of the current projects we would love help with. Feel free to pick one that you are passionate about and see immediate impacts from your volunteered time in the community.
This program gets currently unused bikes in the community into the hands of those who can make use of them for free. It is incredibly impactful as these bikes become modes of transportation for someone to get to work or school.
This program is in need of an organizer to reach out for donated bikes, transport them, and then find matches. We have templates in place for what has worked in the past but welcome any suggestions you can add.
Bike mechanic skills are not necessary. We have a possible partnership in the works with mechanics.
One of the longer traditions of MABA is leading a Full Moon Cruiser Ride in the summer months. If you enjoy leading a ride and socializing with the public then this is for you! We have a trailer and speaker system to bump the tunage while pedaling.
We would love to see more bike parking racks around Montrose. We are working with the High School for the shop class to fabricate the racks and we will find the good locations for install. We also work with the City for more locations on public property.
This program could use someone to oversee it and help get more locking stations in town.
In the past there has been a Summer and a Winter Bike to Work Day with a breakfast station for free coffee / breakfast burritos. Our goal is to have one Bike to Work Day in May, June, July, August, and September to help encourage biking.
Even when you work from home you can bike to the free breakfast station.
This program could use someone to oversee, coordinate, and market the events.
In the past we have done a monthly Yoga for Cyclists that is a donation based yoga class. If you are a yoga instructor or would like to coordinate this event, we would love to hear from you!
In 2019 MABA had completed 2 Safe Routes to School Programs. Unfortunately, our certified instructor had relocated and we no longer have one. If you are certified or would like to get certified to run this program, we have the curriculum and bikes/ramps/etc needed.
Owning a bike is one thing but being able to service it is another. There are a lot of bike riders that are uneducated on tasks even as simple as changing a tire. MABA would like to begin hosting a monthly mechanic night where riders can learn how to service their own bikes.
If you are a bike mechanic, or have been, or just know a lot about bikes then this could be for you!
We are a non-profit that is 100% based upon donations and grants. If you enjoy finding and writing grants we would love your help!
